Grade 10 students practice interviewing

This Friday during the first period, the US grade 10 classes assembled in the US library to learn about preparing and handling interviews for their upcoming internships in May. Denise Brock and Don McMahon, the ISS College and Career Counselor and UCAS Advisor were the interviewers. This entire event was organized by Laoise Barthelmie and Judith Dagornet, who are coordinating this year’s internship program.

5 students, whose names were drawn from a hat, went through a 5-7 minute practice interview with either Mr. McMahon or Ms. Brock and their peers were asked to evaluate them, on a 20 point rubric/scale. Overall, the candidates did very well and everyone seemed to have a great time. Mr. McMahon and Ms. Brock mentioned that the candidates were well dressed (since all grade 10 students were asked to come dressed for a possible interview) and seemed quite fluent in English. There were some nerves, especially being in front of their peers but the kids seemed well prepared and managed their interviews well.

The session ended with a review of proper attire for interviews and a Q&A session. Due to a shortage of time, not all the kids had a chance to be interviewed but it is planned that in the future 2 periods will be used to provide the kids with maximum learning and practice exposure.
