International School of Stuttgart > learning at ISS > the primary years > the 5th grade PYP Exhibition
The Exhibition is a student-driven inquiry project that involves the students in “identifying, investigating and offering solutions to real life issues or problems”. Students apply all that the have learned about research and organizational skills to locate and analyze information and data that will help them answer their guiding questions. They take some form of positive action (volunteering in the community, educating others about their topic, organizing a charitable event, for example) as a result of the knowledge they have gained during the Exhibition process and finally, communicate what they have learned not only in the form of an essay, but in presentations to their peers and their relations in the form of an exhibition which is open to the whole school community. Thirty nine ISS 5th grade students exhibited the results of their inquiries in early May. Their topics were as varied as "What are the parts of a computer and how does software work?", "Bees: are they the perfect community", "Seeing-eye dogs: how does the dog know where to go?" and "What are the Physics involved in skateboarding?". In doing so they demonstrated not only their enthusiasm but also that the IB learner profile is alive and well amongst ISS students. Congratulations to all involved! |
