International School of Stuttgart > about ISS > our location
Stuttgart is a vibrant, internationally-oriented city with an historic city centre. The city itself has a population of 591,500 and has inhabitants from over 160 different countries. It also serves a wider metropolitan region with a population of 2,700,000. As well as being the legislative capital of Baden-Württemberg, Stuttgart and its region have a strong export-oriented economic base. The city was named European Capital of Sport in 2007 and its Opera House and State Theater have also won awards in several recent years. The main school campus is situated in Degerloch, a leafy suburb on the southwestern edge of Stuttgart, close to the airport and to the motorway system which links the region. It is easily accessible by public transport and by road. Click on the adjacent map for details of how to get to the Degerloch campus.
