International School of Stuttgart > about ISS BaSICS > BaSICS profile
![]() Are you looking for the right combination of a solid educational foundation and a nourishing diet of positive reinforcement and challenge? ISS BaSICS offers all its students an outstanding education at an international level. We pay specific attention to the individual abilities, talents, learning styles and needs of every pupil, to ensure the intellectual, social, moral, emotional and spiritual development of each individual. We use an inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning, where we explore and investigate big questions in order to seek a clearer understanding of our world. Our dedicated, caring teachers constantly strive to provide for childrens' 21st century learning needs at the highest standards. We are committed to nurturing the development of inquiring minds; we encourage exploration, formulating perceptive questions, attentive listening and articulating ideas, opinions and discoveries as important processes in learning development. Understanding is the focus of our learning goals. Acknowledging the various different learning styles in their class groups, our teachers ensure a variety of learning opportunities. They employ a variety of teaching approaches and methodologies in ways that are not only dynamic, practical and systematic, but also enjoyable, thus inspiring and challenging students of all academic abilities to go places in their learning adventure that they may not have gone alone. We nurture the growth of each individual child: • academically, by teaching for understanding, • socially, by fostering self-discipline, honesty, openness, tolerance, respect and the ability to cope with change, • intellectually, through the encouragement of curiosity, creativity and critical thinking, • emotionally, by fostering self-esteem, initiative and a positive attitude towards life, • physically, through the promotion of health and fitness. The dual-language teaching approach provides additional language learning opportunities for all students as well as providing mother-tongue teaching of the core concepts and skills (in numeracy, reading and writing for example) with English and German teachers working as a team in the classroom, rather than withdrawing the children for language learning. See our frequently asked questions fact sheet for further details. |
